New StairClimber turns small steps into giant leaps

Precor's new StairClimber is designed to cater for exercisers of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.

The newest addition to the range, which is available in Black Pearl or Storm Grey colourways, was borne out of need for a more reliable stairclimber in the marketplace, according to Precor’s director of product management Adam Hubbard. “During market research we realised our customers didn’t simply need another stairclimber choice, they needed a more robust stairclimber choice,” he says. “Stairclimbers are attracting a new audience and we wanted to embrace that, but knew that with any new type of equipment, there is always intimidation and unfamiliarity. Our goal was to create a product that was more inviting, more accessible and accommodated a wider range of exercisers.” The Precor StairClimber features trademarked Dynamic Step Control™ – which creates a consistent step for every exerciser’s size and speed – and a range of between 20 and 165 steps per minute. It was designed for users to climb on and off more easily. The step rate is smoother and more consistent, and the steps are wider and deeper to allow for taller users and those training at high speeds, says Hubbard. Three years in development, the StairClimber negotiated 30 different assessments plus more than 10,000 hours of lab and field trials before launching to market. “Testing has been a core differentiator for Precor for the past 40 years. Our StairClimber was tested in clubs for almost two years before we sold our first model.” The StairClimber also has a unique ‘lost item slide’, which protects both the machine and users’ personal belongings. Anything dropped through a gap in the steps is returned to the user at the foot of the StairClimber, rather than getting lost in the workings of the machine.
