The proposed replacement for Cascades Leisure Centre in Gravesend has received the go ahead from planners.
The new centre will include a 25m, eight lane pool; a training pool; aqua play splash pad area with water flumes; spectator seating and casual viewing areas; soft play and clip ‘n’ climb zone; two squash courts; a sports hall with bleacher seating, gym; studios and café.
Outside, users will benefit from a tennis and netball court; play areas and an outdoor gym and trim trail.
The report to committee members highlighted the proposal has the support of Sport England and three letters of support had been received, with just one of objection.
“This decision is a very important step on the road to a new leisure centre for the borough. It was considered in detail by both planning officers and members of the planning committee, who took into account comments from a range of statutory consultees and local people,” said Cllr John Burden, leader of Gravesham Borough Council.
“This modern new leisure centre will provide local residents with the facilities they want and deserve, and will be built to the highest environmental standards, ensuring it contributes to our net zero ambitions.”
