£26m leisure centre opens in Sheerwater

Eastwood Leisure Centre, the first phase of the Sheerwater Regeneration Project, has opened after an investment of £26m by Woking Borough Council.

The facility, which is operated by Freedom Leisure, includes a 25m pool with viewing gallery, steam room and sauna; teaching pool with a moveable floor, hoist and privacy blinds; five-court sports hall and a 65 station gym with group cycling studio.

Other facilities include two grass football pitches, a junior rugby pitch, cricket square and cricket nets and a full-size floodlit 3G football pitch with a covered stand for 100 fans - home of Sheerwater FC.

The centre is a shared community use facility, open seven days a week to the public and available to Bishop David Brown School during school hours. Incorporated in the footprint of the main leisure centre building is a new canteen and dining hall accessible only to the school.

As the borough’s most inclusive sports facility to date, the centre has two Changing Places changing rooms; a pool with moveable floor, hoist and privacy blinds; accessible toilets on every level, and changing rooms that can be partitioned for different groups and activities.
