Newcastle City Pool redevelopment completes

Leisure, design and build specialist, Createability, has put the finishing touches to a £7.5m redevelopment of Newcastle City Pool and Turkish Baths, sensitively transforming the 1920s building into a fit-for-purpose leisure hub.

The three-year project, funded by Newcastle City Council, has seen the unique building brought back to its former glory as one of only 11 historic Turkish Baths still in operation in England: with a modern twist to ensure the facilities remain sustainable.

The City Baths basement is home to its historic Turkish Baths, which feature seven rooms functioning at different temperatures, to offer users a varied experience.  The baths have been restored and a new day spa added, including a Rasul thermal mud treatment room, to create a modern wellness offering.

The original facilities, now managed by Fusion Lifestyle, included two pools, one for women and one for men, which were expensive to run. To generate income, one of the pools was filled to create a new fitness offering.
