New tool to help clubs deliver inclusive activity offer

Activity Alliance in partnership with Sport England Club Matters has released the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub. The online tool aims to support clubs and organisations improve their activity opportunities, so more disabled people can be active at a local level.

The new resource enables sports clubs, community organisations, and the professional workforce to self-assess their offer for disabled people. As part of the assessment, users will understand how inclusive and accessible their current offer is for disabled people and identify areas for improvement.

The tool includes a number of questions, taking approximately 10 minutes to answer, across three key areas: organisation operations, promotion of activities, and workforce. The responses gathered guide users towards a range of relevant resources to help support organisations to make positive changes to ensure their activity opportunities meet the needs of disabled people.

Findings from Activity Alliance’s latest Annual Disability and Activity Survey shows that disabled people are being left out and feel less encouraged to be active as we return to activity after the Covid-19 pandemic. This is despite eight in 10 wanting to be more active. For those disabled people who have returned and are taking part in activity, their experiences have been less positive and inclusive.

Activity Alliance and Club Matters hope the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub will help clubs and organisations to become more inclusive and accessible for disabled people following the pandemic.

"We are delighted to work with Club Matters to unveil the new Disability Inclusion Club Hub to the sport and activity sector. As we all look to recover and reinvent from Covid-19, it is vital that disabled people are at the heart of all plans in sport and activity. To ensure that local opportunities are inclusive and welcoming for all. This new online hub provides extra support for clubs and organisations at the touch of a button,” said Ray Ashley, Activity Alliance director of partnerships and programmes.

Club Matters in a Sport England Lottery funded programme that provides free resources, support, guidance, and workshops to grassroots sports clubs, groups, community organisations, and the professional sport and activity workforce.
