New open air swimming pool planned for Hull

A new outdoor pool will be constructed in Hull as part of the £4.6m refurbishment of Albert Avenue Pools.

The new lido will replace the existing outdoor pool at the site, which closed 25 years ago.

The refurbishment project will also include construction of a large gym and fitness studio, the refurbishment and redecoration of the entire building, the replacement of all the mechanical and electrical systems, along with new heating, new ventilation systems.

The project is part of Hull City Council’s £18.5m investment into leisure facilities across the city and follows the refurbishment of Ennerdale Leisure Centre, which completed early in 2020. The Grade II listed Beverley Road Baths is currently undergoing a £3.7m revamp, which includes a new larger gym, the refurbishment of the existing gym, new steam and sauna facilities and improvements to the poolside and changing facilities.

Major works at Albert Avenue Pools will get underway in earnest when Beverley Road Baths reopens to the public later this year.

“The council is incredibly passionate about investing into our communities and I already know the centre will be really appreciated and loved by its users for years to come,” said councillor Dave Craker, portfolio holder for leisure and culture.
