Serco Leisure and its operating partner Shropshire Community Leisure Trust have won a five-year contract extension to continue operating Market Drayton Swimming Pool, Oswestry Leisure Centre, Shrewsbury Sports Village and The Quarry Swimming & Fitness Centre on behalf of Shropshire Council.
The extension includes investment from the council to upgrade equipment across each of the centres. The Council work with the Trust to identify innovative equipment that will appeal to a wider customer base.
The contract extension marks the 10th anniversary of Serco Leisure and Shropshire Community Leisure Trust assuming operation of centres across the county.
“Shropshire Council is committed to people’s health and wellbeing and there are some interesting projects in our hands. We are currently reviewing the results of the public consultation on developing a new £12.1m swimming and fitness centre in Whitchurch and swimming in Shrewsbury is also at the forefront of our attention,” said Cecilia Motley, Shropshire Council cabinet member for culture, leisure and tourism.
“Shropshire Council knows how important to people swimming facilities in Shrewsbury are and remains committed to working with partners on the project and the site will be maintained in the meantime.”
