Playtomic to invest heavily in UK padel industry

The sports tech company, Playtomic, is to invest a ‘substantial’ portion of its recent funding round of €56m in supporting padel tennis in the UK.

The padel and tennis booking app, which launched in the UK last summer, has a ‘very clear strategy’ to work with the padel community to better support and connect clubs, coaches and players and align with key national sporting organisations. Plans are also underway to further enhance the app’s functionality.

According to the Lawn Tennis Association, as of November 2021 there were around 15,000 active padel players across Britain. There are currently 142 padel courts at 66 venues – a number that is set to grow substantially.

“We see collaboration as crucial to helping grow padel facilities and participation in the UK. It’s imperative that we boost market awareness of the sport and develop the padel infrastructure through a series of joint ventures. We have a very clear vision and now even more opportunity to deliver on this vision. We have the expertise and funding and are working with some amazing partners. It’s an exciting time,” said Jo Buchanan-Smith, business development Lead for Playtomic UK.
