Plans unveiled for ski centre, water park and zip wires in Wales

Plans for an indoor snow centre and adventure park on a site in Merthyr Tydfil are to be submitted this summer.

The Rhydycar West scheme aims to build on the success of Bike Park Wales, one of Europe's most visited bike parks, which attracts over 300,000 visitors a year from around the globe.

The town’s location at on the foothills of the Brecon Beacons, National Park, one of the UK's most spectacular landscapes, and is seen as ideal for creating a hub of adventure tourism.

Marvel, the company behind the project, proposes to build an indoor snow centre, housing one of the largest indoor ski slopes in the world at more than 500 metres. Using technology and the existing typography of the land the snow centre will operate all year round providing ski conditions for all seasons as well as a centre of excellence for Britain’s Olympic Ski Team. 

The plans will also include an indoor tropical water park - one of the largest in the UK - with a constant tropical climate, artificial beaches, water slides, attractions and swimming and bathing area for all ages and levels. 

An indoor and outdoor adventure park featuring a mountain coaster, clip ’n’ climb, zip wires as well as other adrenaline activities, two hotels and a luxury glamping zone will complete the plans.
