Phase 3 Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund launches this month

The third round of public funding to boost decarbonisation in the public sector opens this month.

Building on the success of the first and second phase of the Public Sector Low Carbon Skills Fund, phase 3 of the decarbonisation skills funding focuses on supporting the public sector to take the step towards a low-carbon heating future.

Most of the buildings in the public sector still rely on fossil fuel-based heating and expert skills are required to identify and plan how these heating systems can be replaced, ideally at the end of their working lives.

Having a robust heat decarbonisation plan will put organisations in a strong position to take the next steps in decarbonising, including by enabling them to develop detailed project proposals that will help them to apply for any future grant funding for capital decarbonisation measures, or alternative sources of finance. This means organisations can think more strategically and be better prepared for future decarbonisation opportunities.

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has made available up to £14m of funding for Phase 3 LCSF that will provide grants for public sector organisations to engage the specialist and expert advice and skills required to put in place or improve an existing heat decarbonisation plan.

The Application Portal for Phase 3 LCSF will open on Wednesday 15 June 2022 at 2pm for all eligible public sector bodies to apply. All applications that receive funding in Phase 3 LCSF must complete their heat decarbonisation plans before 31 March 2023.
