The major redevelopment of the lido at Northcroft Leisure Centre, Newbury, has been completed following a £5.7m investment.
Commissioned by West Berkshire Council and developed by Alliance Leisure in partnership with Myrtha Pools and Universal Civils & Build through the UK Leisure Framework, outdoor facilities include a 50m Olympic-length swimming pool, a splash pad and fun slides, beach hut-style changing rooms, a sun terrace, and a relaxation area, all of which are fully accessible. And the project features some of the very-latest technologies, including Myrtha Pools’ precision-engineered chromium-rich steel solution, which futureproofs the lido for decades to come, both in terms of ongoing maintenance costs and sustainability savings. Kevin Burns, UK business development manager at Myrtha Pools, said: “Like most lidos across the country, modern technology is affording leisure operators the chance to redevelop and plan for the future.” The pool itself was also redesigned to further reduce maintenance demands. Greg Walker, business development manager at Alliance Leisure, explains: “By shortening the pool from 72m to 50m, and reducing the depth from a maximum of 2.8m to a profile from 0.9m to 1.58m, pressure on the structure has been reduced and maintenance demands have been eased.” Moving forward, Everyone Active has been appointed under a 10-year contract to manage the Northcroft Leisure Centre and Lido.
