Willmott Dixon has started work on site for the new Winchester Sport & Leisure Park. The centre will replace River Park Leisure Centre, which is coming to the end of its useful life.
Facilities
Facilities will include:
The project team
The project has been developed in partnership with Hampshire County Council and the University of Winchester and Hampshire charity The Pinder Trust.
The Trust has supported Winchester City Council in delivering the centre’s hydrotherapy suite. The hydrotherapy pool will be used by patients with long term health conditions on weekdays during the day. At other times it will be available for public use for physiotherapy, sports injuries, pain relief or general relaxation.
Energy efficient design
Energy usage is a key consideration and natural light and ventilation will be used where possible. It is anticipated energy usage per square metre per annum will be significantly better than the existing centre (by around 27 per cent).
Using Passive design and energy efficiency measures, the council aims to achieve a 16.8 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions beyond the Building Regulations, an EPC(A) rating, and a BREEAM rating of Excellent.
The centre is due to open in 2021.
